Mahler: Symphony No. 6 Pre-Concert Discussion

Saturday, March 9, 2019 @ 6:30 p.m.
Saenger Theatre, Upstairs Lobby

Those interested in learning more about Mahler: Symphony No. 6 may join musicologist Michael Strasser for a free pre-concert discussion at 6:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Palafox Lobby.

Dr. Michael Strasser is a Professor of History and Literature at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. His
research is focused primarily on music of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and he regularly presents pre-concert talks for the Cleveland Orchestra.

Strasser's dissertation, written under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Ringer, was a study of the Société Nationale de Musique, a concert society that promoted the composition of new French music in fin-de-siècle Paris. While researching his dissertation, Strasser spent two years in Paris as a recipient of the prestigious Chateaubriand Fellowship, awarded by the French government for the study of French history and culture. He has presented papers on aspects of his research into French music, Schoenberg and Mexican colonial church music at national and regional conferences of the American Musicological Society and at various international conferences in the U.S., the U.K. and France. Publications include articles and reviews in 19th-Century Music, Music & Letters, Notes, and Fontes Artis Musicae.
He previously taught at the University of Evansville, and before turning his attention to musicology, was a band director at Tate High School and at the University of Louisville.
