The PSO offers a wide spectrum of engaging educational experiences for all ages.
Since the early 1980’s the PSO has taken chamber ensembles into local classrooms to perform for 3rd and 4th grade students in Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties. Each year, the PSO visits at least 10 local elementary schools with these performances that are specifically designed to demonstrate fundamentals of music such as melody, rhythm, and harmony while giving students their first look at the different instrument families of the orchestra.
Each season, the PSO performs a full concert for all 5th grade students in the Santa Rosa and Escambia County School Districts reaching more than 6,500 students. These concerts are specifically designed for the students and feature standards of orchestral repertoire. The concerts are preceded by activities, CDs, and preparatory packets of information that are given to all participating schools.
Santa Rosa Strings, founded in 2006, provides students in southern Santa Rosa County an opportunity to learn to play violin, viola, cello, or bass under instruction from Pensacola Symphony musicians. This program is designed for 4th graders through adults and is offered in conjunction with Santa Rosa Community Schools at Navarre Middle School. In the upcoming season, several of our visiting guest artists are scheduled to present community and school performances allowing students to have interaction and conversations with world renowned soloists.
The PSO now offers $5 tickets to our Saturday afternoon dress rehearsals prior to each Masterworks performance. This opportunity is perfect for younger audience members or those patrons preferring a daytime performance.
