Community Involvement

The Pensacola Symphony strives to be an integral part of the community. Through employing local musicians, performing for local audiences around the Greater Pensacola area, driving economic development, and actively engaging children and adults in lifelong learning activities in schools and around the community, the PSO is truly Pensacola’s own. If you’ve been to an event with live music, chances are it involved members of the PSO.

The PSO can facilitate having musicians at your next personal, business, or organization function. Please call the Symphony office at (850) 435-2533.

Beyond the Stage

Beginning in 2015, the Pensacola Symphony initiated new community engagement programs to reach individuals in schools, hospitals, and neighborhoods with the help of partner organizations.

Serving Schools

Musicians of the PSO work with our partners at Tate High School and Ransom Middle School to bring musical performance and instruction to school orchestra students. Musicians provide on-site sectionals, master classes, lessons, and mentorships to the students at these schools

Serving Children and Families in Hospitalization and Treatment

Waiting room experiences and in-patient hospital stays often unintentionally create stressful situation for children, families, and care staff. With our partners at Nemours Children's Specialty Care Pensacola and Sacred Heart Children's Hospital two or more musicians from the orchestra lead interactive performances and share hands-on experiences with musical instruments. Musicians also visit patients in their hospital rooms if they are unable to be in a communal setting.

A new pilot program has begun with a partnership at Covenant Hospice providing music to families and patients at their facility.

Serving Children in Neighborhoods

Partnerships with the Belmont Youth Band and Santa Rosa Strings provide a series of music education and presentational activities that bond the PSO to neighborhoods and communities. Activities include introduction to instruments, chamber ensemble or small group presentations, instrument donations, lessons, mentorships, and concerts presented within the community for families and neighbors.
